On this Salkantay trek 5days/4nights you can expect to hike every day in nature and be surrounded by natural beauty. Trekking around Salkantay offers incredible landscapes and is an unforgettable experience.
You’ll trek the Salkantay mountain pass, and experience the best alternative mountain trek to Machu Picchu. The Salkantay trek is another route instead of the Inca trail. And along the Salkantay trek route, you’ll be memorized with the remote paths, fewer people and it is all topped off with the Humatay lagoon.
We’ll leave Cusco very early in the morning to start this Salkantay trek tour. We’ll start this Salkantay tour by boarding a minibus to take us to the trekking start point.
We shall travel until we reach District of Mollepata where we will take a short break then carry on the journey until Challacancha, where this trekking tour starts.
Salkantay tour starts with a 1-hour ascent and then we trek on flat ground for about 3 hours on the foothills and alongside an Inca canal.’
In the afternoon we shall visit Humantay Lagoon where we shall experience spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.
Afterwards, we´ll hike through forests with queuñas that are native shrubs of the area, ´till we get to Soraypampa (4,491 m). We will then get settled in the campsite and enjoy a much need dinner. At this campsite, we will spend the night in huts.
After enjoying our breakfast, we will start trekking on a horse path. Today’s hike is the longest hiking day of the Salkantay tour with a 3-hour ascent to the Salkantay Mountain Pass which sots at 4.650 m.
Once around the Salkantay Mountain Pass, we trek downhill to Huayracmachay where we´ll enjoy a nutritious lunch. After lunch and needed rest, we carry on downhill through beautiful woodlands, with waterfalls, and observe orchids, birds and other wildlife.
Finally, we´ll reach our campsite, in Qollpapampa, to have dinner, and sleep in huts.
Today’s hike starts downhill on the mountain foothills nd along the Sahuayaco River´s bank. From this point the climate is subtropical. (there is no malaria in this area however the mosquitos love to bite)
We’ll aim to have lunch at a place called Playa and along the way we trek through beautiful forests, fruit tree plantations growing avocados, oranges, pacay, bananas, coffee and cacao.
After lunch we’ll take local transport to Santa Teresa where we we get settled in the campsite for the night. In the afternoon you’ll have free time where you can enjoy ocalmayo´s thermo-medicinal baths, which are located just 30-minutes walking distance from the campsite.
After breakfast, we hike to Hidroeléctrica´s railway station and stop for lunch before treking the railway line alongside the Vilcanota River.
During the hike, we´ll have opportunities to contemplate Mount Wayna Picchu, passing through the Mandor Valley, to get to Machupicchu Pueblo (ex Aguas Calientes), where we´ll settle at a hostel.
We start the day off at 4 am and walk up to Machu Picchu and have a guided tour of the Inca city for about 2 hours. You’ll then have some free time to take in this Inca site and take photos before heading back down to the city to have lunch.
After lunch we take the train to Ollantaytambo, where our staff will be awaiting you, at the railway station´s main exit gate, to take you back to Cusco.
