Our Cusco morning city tour is full of historic sites, visiting the most popular and not to be missed Inka sites.
There are many Inca ruins in the city and it could take you a lifetime to explore them all. Some Inca sites are still yet to be discovered. On this Cusco morning city tour, we take you to the best sites that are still intact. This way you can really imagine what the Inca times were like. The city tour really does help you to take a step back in time and explore the culture that once walked these hills.
The “ceremonial temple” of Sacsayhuaman with its megalithic walls, the special place where the chief of the Inca Empire could rest, terraces and staircases that were once part of the defensive of Cusco.
The Cusco morning city tour starts just outside the city centre at Sacsayhuaman, the Inca Archaeological Center. This fortress was build using huge carved rocks joined with precision. These huge rocks can be as high as 9 metres, the largest architectural work the Inkas did.
Not forgetting the incredible views of Cusco city centre from here.
Qenqo was the Inka ceremonial cult centre for Inkas, were back in the days you could find Inka mummies.
Qenqo is located in one of the hills that frame the city, the ruins of Qenqo stand out as a ritual place where the Incas worshipped the Sun God and the Pacha Mama.
This important Inca ruins contain a huge amount of carved rock with many steps, holes and gutters where it is said that the chicha used in the rituals was deposited. Inside Qenqo, there is a semi-circular cavern that houses inside a table or altar where agrarian rites were performed.
The most incredible thing about Qenqo is the open space called Amphitheater and the galleries.
Cusco historic sight Tambomachay water cult is made up of finely carved stones, waterfalls and aqueducts to carry water from the nearby hot springs through the rocks.
There are sources that refer to Tambomachay as one of the nine ceques built along the Road of Antisuyu, describing it as an Incan house where sacrifices were also made.
Puca Pucara was Cusco’s military defensive also know as ‘the red fortress’, constructed with large walls, terraces and staircases. It was once thought this also served as a farm that served as the resting place for guards to protect Tombomachay.
It was a very educational and enjoyable tour around Cusco. I liked the 4 Incan sites just outside of Cusco. I have got to say that there really is something mysterious and magical about the Incas, Of course, being so old we may never find the real truth about the incas and Cusco. Sometimes i wonder if the Incas of Cusco listen to the stories these guides tell us and laugh
Wow, this tour was great to learn about the history of Cusco, this was worth every penny. Thank you!
