Humantay Lake Tour takes you to a majestic turquoise lake in the Andes. It is a hidden jewel just outside of Cusco, and a jewel you’ll regret if you fail to discover. Humantay Lake is sat at around 4200 metres high and is fed by the glaciers above.

Departure time does vary depending on the location of your hotel/hostel but we aim to pick you up around 4 am depending on your location.
A Beautiful turquoise lake sat high in the Andes mountain range. Humantay lake is a place that no photo can do justice, a place this is majestic and peaceful. On this tour, we shall start the day with a nice breakfast near the start of the hike. After the hike up and down Humantay lake, we shall stop at a local restaurant for a well-deserved buffet lunch.
Hiking up Humantay lake will take about 2 hours, and return around 1.5 hours. Whilst at Humantay lake your guide will perform a simple ritual of thanks and permissions using coca leaves. This will then give you a safe passage down.
Your adventure begins at 5.30 am when we pick you up from your hotel/hostel in Cusco. We’ll travel by minibus for around 3 hours and then stop for a delicious local breakfast. After breakfast, we shall return to the minivan and journey for around another hour and arrive at the start point for hiking Humantay Lake. During the drive to Humantay lake, you will see beautiful landscapes and the impressive snowy “Salkantay”.
When we arrive in Soraypampa we will start a 2 km walk to Humantay Lake. The hike up will take around 2 hours at a steady pace. The hike up is a pleasure as we will always have the snowy capped mountains ahead.
Arriving at Humantay Lagoon, which is turquoise due to the mineral found at the bottom of the lake. Humantay is fed by the glaciers of the mountain and is considered a jewel of nature. Alongside this beautiful lagoon, you will be delighted by the views of nature that surround the lake.
Once at the Lagoon, you will have time to explore. After your guide will perform a simple ritual for permission and thanks for the safe passage down. The ritual is done with coca leaves.
Heading down from Humantay will take around 1.5 hours.
Once you have arrived back at the start point we shall then enjoy a local buffet lunch before heading back to Cusco. We shall arrive back in Cusco around 6.30 pm/ 7 pm dropping you off near the Plaza de Armas.

A great trekking tour to Humantay lake. This tour was perfect for warming the legs for Machu Picchu. The lake is full of rich blue colours. We took a 2 hour bus ride, followed by breakfast, then a 3 hour trek up the mountains to find the Lagoon. It should be called the hidden lake as I have no idea how it was discovered. followed by a trek down, lunch and then the ride back to Cusco City.
High in the Andes, there is a lake called Humantay lagoon. With a little trekking for a few hours, you’ll arrive at Humantay lake and be amazed by the incredible colours it has to offer. Humantay lake was worth every penny, this sweet little lagoon just outside of Cusco was an enjoyable trek. I’m quite fit and I would say the trek is easy, although some of the people in my group prefered to trek at a slower pace. We all made it to the lagoon, so all is well. Wow! the place is so beautiful, the hike to Humantay lake wasn’t too hard and took me 2 hours trekking at a steady pace. I’m so glad I added this tour last minute. The trek is uphill the whole way, but boy was the lagoon beautiful and worth every second!. Humantay lagoon is not to be missed if you are in Cusco. Be sure to add this trek to your inteninery.
