Puerto Maldonado 4Days/3Nights Tour Itinerary

Day 1Biodiversity Capital of Peru

We will meet you at the bus station or airport on your arrival and we shall transfer to the office of Monte Amazonico Lodge for an update about the tour.

We will then take a short transfer to the port where we will catch a boat to our lodge. The boat ride down the Amazon takes around 1 hour. We will then have a welcome meeting with fresh juice made from some local Amazon fruits.

After a short rest, we will then head out on an introduction hike for around two hours in the dense tropical forest. Our expert local guide will take you through our trails to see a variety of trees that are more than five hundred years old. At the same time we should be able to observe some wild Amazon species such as toucans, orioles, parrots, monkeys, snakes, butterflies and more. You will experience the magic of the Amazon Rainforest within the Tambopata National Reserve (278,000 thousand hectares protected under Peruvian laws).

We will then take lunch and head to Monkey Island which is located in front of our lodge across the Madre de Dios River. At Monkey Island there are different species of monkeys such as brown capuchin, squirrel monkey, saddleback tamarin and white capuchin.

In the night we will go on a search for caiman on the banks of Madre de Dios River. We will use our flashlights to spot the beaming eyes of the predators that await their pray.

As well as bringing your flashlight with you, bring some luck. If we are lucky we might see the capybara. The world’s largest rodent which weighs 60 kilos and is part of the Peruvian Cuy family.

Back to the  lodge for dinner and a good nights sleep.

Day 2Biodiversity Capital of Peru

We will start the day early with an early breakfast. Then take a short boat ride to the start of lake Sandoval.

Here we shall start with a 3 kilometres hike to the Lake Sandoval (piranha habitat) one of the largest in the Tambopata National Reserve. After hiking our guide will row us on a rowing boat. We shall navigate the lake to appreciate many different Amazon animals (Hoatzin cormorant Jacanas, puma heron, eagles, howler monkey, squirrel monkey, black capuchin, tamarins and sloths).

lake Sandoval is home to a large family of giant river otters (almost 2 metres long). These giant river otters are in danger of extinction so we have to be lucky to see them. And if we are even luckier we could spot the largest alligator recorded which is over 4 meters long.

Return to the lodge to enjoy a typical lunch.

In the evening we will go on a night walk where we can appreciate the diversity of insects, amphibians, reptiles and other nocturnal animals.

Return for dinner and a good nights rest

Day 3Biodiversity Capital of Peru

We shall start the day at 5.30 am and head out to the jungle canopy walk-way.

This walk-way in Puerto Maldonado will let us see the jungle from another perspective. The walk-way is around 30 metres high and let us see the amazon from a different angle. As well as a panoramic view of the Rio Madre de Dios. From these platforms, we can observe different species of birds such as toucans and macaws.

After breakfast, we prepare for an activity full of adrenaline on the tops of the trees which are more than 30 meters high. We will do the zip-line, for this activity will have an instructor guide. He will give as a talk about how to use the safety harness during the Zip-line. Feeling the rush of gliding through the amazon, this experience will be forever with you.

After we have fulfilled our adrenaline needs we shall return to the lodge for a rest and Lunch.

In the afternoon we will be challenged by crossing the Madre de Dios River by kayaks. Whilst crossing the river we can enjoy the spectacular sunset that the Amazon offers.

Then we can make artisanal fishing in the Madre de Dios River, with a little patience we will see some fish species such as big catfish.

Day 4Biodiversity Capital of Peru

We shall wake up and have breakfast and enjoy the lodge for one last moment. We shall then take a boat ride for 1 hour back up to the city of Puerto Maldonado where we shall say our farewells.
